If you HAVE to drive the truck until the dealer can fix it, putting the transmission in tow mode around town and then taking it out of tow mode at highway speed (65+ mph) should reduce or maybe stop the shuddering. Tow mode changes the shift points and keeps the RPM's higher.

If you have to have the Colorado/Canyon and don't want the 8 speed, then your choice is to find a gently used 2015 or 2016 with the 6 speed, or get a newer diesel with the 6 speed. If you get a 2015 or 2016 with the V6, make sure it has the latest transmission tuning TSB applied.
Lately, for instance, those with the 8L45 "shudder" issues GM has been swapping out with a Mobil trans fluid. If your truck was built after March 1, 2019, then it should have the new fluid, which (so far that I've seen) is helping a lot with the shudder. When I feel the shudder coming on at 1700 rpm and 45-50 mph, I take my foot off the gas, let it normalize, then push the accelerator down enough to push the engine to 2500-3000 rpm. The car downshifts, and can accelerate normally without any shudder. Otherwise, so far my 2017 Colorado 3.6L/8L45 drive train is working fine. The 8 speed is a big improvement in smoothness over the 6L50 IMO. I have never noticed any shudder in the almost 4 years of driving it, but did have the fluid changed under the TSB back in 2018. So far so good.

If that's the case, then the trans fluid flush under TSB 18-NA-355 from a dealer is the fix. The shudder occurs while light load cruising 25mph+ in high gear, feeling like an intermittent pulsing ...
My 2017 canyon v6 with the 8 speed has 15,000 miles on it. A previous dealer refused to work on my truck and said my transmission was normal.
