A new pin ordered from Brownells. The pin was listed as "post 1974" so I was not concerned. Duly delivered and it doesn't fit! On closer looking it doesn't resemble the pin it's supposed to replace. Likewise, the pin in the 39A doesn't resemble the pin in my '73 vintage 39M or even my 1897! Recently recieved my 1897 Marlin 22 back from the gunsmith , had it relined and a new 39 bolt and firing pin from Dick's Gun shop also. After 20 rounds fired it wouldn't extract. I looked and saw there was a burr at the top entrance of the chamber, where the firing pin hits.The Model 39 is designed to not hurt it's self when dry fired. The firing pin floats in the bolt and depending on how clean the channel is that the pin rides in it will sometimes keep the firing pin from moving freely. With that info you can now go to the next show and keep buying 39A's till the funds run out. Have fun.

I have an old .22 caliber Marlin Model 39 (maybe model 39 A, hard to see exactly). It seems to work OK except there is no firing pin in it.
