Shave the wood under the rear band (I use a file) to make it easier, I have enlarged the holes under the band, bbl and mag tube. That band only does one thing and keeps the fore end on. The front one the bbl and mag tube can be enlarged also.The 18.5 Marlin Texan's are regular run rifles. I think they started in 80 till about 85 or so, they were made pre and post safety. As I am writing this, I am holding the bolt from my 1968 336 RC in my hand and looking at the schematic. My observation is that it is a simple replacement especially if you have already disassembled the bolt.
