I ran both a dual crossbow/thief bard and titanstring gloomstalker/assassin in my second honour run. Gloomstalker was worse on Raphael, Ansur, Netherbrain, Steel Watchers, Ethel, and Myrkul phase 2. It shined on Viconia, Mystic Carrion, Lorroakan, Gortash, and Yurgir. But the only harder fight in that group is Viconia.

Unless you are willing to put 6 levels into Bard to have inspiration reset on short rests, it's not worth considering unless you have a long rest heavy party altogether. 4 levels in assasin and 3 in fighter is an obvious choice. If you are going crit assasin build, champion is a no-brainer. If you are going more utility, BM has a bit more to offer.

Race doesn't play a big enough factor to definitely say there is a best build for any particular one. Oathbreaker Drow is fun. 5 pact of blade GOO/7 oathbreaker. Invocation extra attack stacks with normal extra attack. Plus Eldritch blast when you can't get in melee range, fight in darkness with devils sight.
